MassEffect 2 Review by Sdf1jjak

Every si-fi fan wants to feel like they're part of a bigger universe.  Many games have tried to throw us into a fantastic setting but few have reached the level that Mass Effect 2 has.

The game starts off with the Alliance flagship "Normandy" Patrolling through space.  everything seems fine until an unknown ship appears and opens fire on the Normandy panic starts and then your given control of your character (you can chose weather its male or female.)  from the get-go the game has no shortage of excitement.  Once you finish the Tutorial-esuqe  intro your given command of the new Normandy and are given a task to build your crew.  The game features some of the best dialog options in any game giving you the opportunity to build friendships or enmity between you and other characters.

Aside from the main storyline missions, there are also a few side quests as well that give you additional exp and credits to spend on weapons upgrades and so on.  Mining is a big and important part of succeeding in Mass Effect 2.  Just about all your upgrades require minerals that are scarce.  There are several solar systems to explore in the game, each with a hand full of unexplored planets to probe for minerals (if you up for some laughs go to the local system and probe Uranus two or three times.)

Mass Effect 2's enemies are smart when it comes to intense firefights, forcing you to take advantage of the environment around you to gain the upper hand in combat.  Later enemies show more aggression and prove difficult if you find yourself backed into a corner.  There are about three different main types of enemies in Mass Effect 2,  humanoid/ Android/ Collectors.  Collectors are at the top of the list when it comes to difficulty , and facing them means picking the right team for the job.

As you gain more and more allies, eventually you're given the chance to earn their loyalty by taking on a special mission.  Each team member has a unique mission with two possible outcomes that can result in ether befriending that person or making them dislike you.  Not all the crew members like each other and its your choice as to how a dispute ends between them.

Graphically the game is a beauty to behold, featuring some of the best lighting effects seen in any game.  Character models are highly detailed and facial animation really makes the dialog seem more natural.  the texture detail is wonderful and the scars in the main characters face fade or worsen depending on how you play the game.  The games character creator really lets your imagination run wild allowing you to make anyone you want (human only) and if your tricky, even make a character in your own likeness.

Over all this game had me fully hooked for hours and even after I finished the game (I won't spoil the ending) I kept coming back for more.  If you like 3rd person action si-fi RPGs then this game deserves a place in your collection.
